CRISTINA LEON

Cristina Leon, DO is a pediatric and congenital cardiologist who lives in Pocatello, Idaho with her husband Juan, their kids Mariana and JJ and their dogs Tango and Athena.    Dr. Leon currently serves as the Medical Director for the South East and Eastern Idaho Pediatric & Congenital Cardiology Project.
Dr. Leon was born in Miami, Florida and grew up in Barranquilla, Colombia – she moved back to the US after graduating High School and completed her Bachelor of Science with Honors from Florida International University and was an NIH MARC-U-STAR scholar as she focused on cardiac neural crest cell development research.
Dr. Leon was a charter school middle and high school science teacher for 2 years and the went onto completing medical school at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine.  She then completed her Pediatric Residency at Miami Children’s Hospital and her Pediatric and Congenital Cardiology Fellowship at St Louis Children’s Hospital/ Washington University School of Medicine.
Dr. Leon has an intrinsic interest in quality improvement focused towards children and families in underserved and rural areas.    She worked with the Idaho Medical Association and the Idaho Department of Health on the mandatory implementation of Critical Congenital Heart Disease Screening and serves as a consultant for the ID DOH.  She loves spending time with her family and her favorite hobby is dancing.
